Happy 50th Birthday Mum! - Go independent businesses!

Sunday was my Mum's 50th birthday :) Yesterday everyone was very hungover. We had a wonderful day!

Me & Mum many Christmases ago!
In Liverpool there is a big rise in the popularity of independent businesses and Sunday saw us visit a lot of them and we had a ball!

At Coast they give you blankets to sit outside if you are chilly!
Starting off with brunch as Coast in Woolton Village. This charming cafe, with its hidden walled garden has such a relaxing atmosphere using mainly local produce and the staff are fantastic. We moved from inside to outside for tea and coffee and blankets where provided for us as although sunny we where in the shade. There was also a rendition of 'Happy Birthday' for my Mum and a cupcake with a candle! 5 stars guys!

Birthday cake!
We then went into the city centre, starting at Home, the old Quiggin's building, for drinks. I love the selection process here, you pick your own bottle and then its served to you. This allows for a much bigger selection than in fridges and so many local ales to choose from!

We finished with dinner in The Clove Hitch (after a few more stops around the city mind!) on Hope Street which was just fantastic! The service was wonderful and the food was perfect as always!

Not allowed any more drinks! ;)

So why is there such a big rise in independent businesses of late? Is it due to the Recession hit that we route more for the little guy now? Is there more independent businesses? Or are we just more aware of them due to projects like Independent Liverpool?

Personally I just think its wonderful! You don't have to look far to find independent businesses so there's no excuse to not support local! :p

Judging faces - ha ha!
